About us
Who we are
What we do
Behind Holiday Resort i Sandsjö AB are Caro and Daniel Schafer.
The Swiss couple moved to Swedish Lapland in October 2011 with their Nordic sled dogs.
The intention was clear: a different life. More time. More closeness. A place that doesn’t just function.
At Lake Sandsjön, they found that place.
The first years were shaped by building, challenges and slowly arriving in a new reality.
Their journey was documented by Swiss television in the series “Auf und Davon”.
The six episodes of “Auf und Davon” including the season one year later and 5 years later with each one episode can be watched in the archive of SRF on Youtube.

In 2014, they became part of another story through the documentary “Sången från Vindelfjällen”.
In 2016, their son Joshua was born – turning a project into a home.
In 2020, everything changed.
The world became quieter.
Tourism, as they knew it, disappeared.
What followed was not a pause.
But a moment of reflection.
A return to why everything began.
In the years after, something less visible but more important emerged.
Clarity.
Today, in 2026, Caro, Daniel and Joshua still live and work here.
With their dogs. With more calm. And a clearer understanding of what truly matters.
This autumn marks 15 years.
Not as a success story.
But as a path.
Holiday Resort i Sandsjö AB operates Sandsjögården Camping & Lodge.
Northern Adventures & Resorts AB runs the adventure offering.
Maybe you are simply looking for a place to stay.
You can find that anywhere.
What is often missing is something else.
A stay that does not feel like a program.
But like space.
Sandsjögården is a place where you find exactly that.
Accommodation.
Camping.
Food.
Possibilities to be outside.
But none of it stands in the foreground.
You can plan your stay.
Or let it unfold.
You can use what is offered.
Or consciously choose not to.
For some, the support begins before arrival.
For others, once they are here.
And for some, it simply means being left in peace.
That is possible too.
Much has become simpler.
Booking.
Arrival.
Being here.
Less paperwork.
Fewer processes.
More space.
What remains is the intention behind it:
Not offering more. But less.
So that what is often missing can emerge:
Calm. Clarity. Connection.
